The Rocky Mountain Horse breed originated in Eastern Kentucky in the late 1800s through the breeding of a legendary gaited stallion from the Rocky Mountain region to mares from the Appalachian region of Kentucky, almost a hundred years before the Rocky Mountain Horse Association® (RMHA), the registry for the breed, was created in 1978 to preserve the unique bloodlines of the Rocky Mountain Horse and promote the versatility of this wonderful breed.
The Livestock Conservancy® recognizes the breed as an endangered heritage equine breed and classifies it as threatened because of the number of registrations each year (<500). Responsible breeders focus on maintaining diverse bloodlines and monitoring for hereditary health concerns that could affect the breed's long-term well-being.
The RMHA supports these breeders through careful herd monitoring and programs that reward owners for using their horses in a variety of ways. The breeders and the association aim to maintain the health of the Rocky Mountain Horse herd for many years to come.

We decided to purchase a stallion only after we found Venture's Black Fury. He possessed all the traits Rockies are known for and was a joy to ride and easy to handle. A proud but respectful stallion, he proved himself by passing on his gait, conformation, beauty, temperament, athleticism and intelligence onto his offspring. Fury has spent many years at pasture with his mares and foals, where we found he loved to play with them. He stood as our herd sire from 2006 to 2026. We've enjoyed watching his offspring, across the US and in several other countries, please their owners.
We've ended our years as breeders, but we're very happy we found another family eager to continue Fury's stallion career the same way, living at pasture with their breeding mares. Fury's moved on, but the memories he's given us will last forever. Click on the button below and Fury will show you the signature Rocky Mountain Horse Gait.

We are lifetime members of the RMHA and The Livestock Conservancy (links to both can be found on our Helpful Links page). Since 2006, we've promoted the Rocky Mountain Horse by producing and selling animals that represent the breed's historic type. We believe breeding for sound conformation, correct gait, gentle temperament, athletic potential and intelligence ("the full package") is key to maintaining each animal's long-term health, each owner's satisfaction, and the conservation of this breed far into the future.
We chose our stallion and mares for these traits, their complementary and diverse genetic lines, and the sound health of their ancestors, with the goal of conserving traditional Rocky Mountain Horse breed characteristics. We encourage other breeders to make the same commitment.
Fury was 7, competing in western, saddle seat, conformation, gaited dressage, trail, versatility, and driving competitions, and had been a breeding stallion since age 3. Truly demonstrating the breed's versatility!
