Braunvieh Cattle

  Originating in Switzerland, Braunvieh were originally bred for draft use and both milk and meat production. We focus on breeding full blood stock from some of the oldest lines that can be traced back to those Swiss bloodlines. Aren't they just the prettiest cows you've ever seen? And don't you just love their fuzzy ears? 

Brownie, pictured above,  was our first full-blood Braunvieh and holds a special place in our hearts due to her excellent brood cow abilities and other wonderful traits. Although she now lives on another farm, we're hoping for some offspring from her. By the way, please don't tell Brownie that she isn't a super model, she truly believes she is!

 Calving ease, strong maternal instincts, high performance, and top-tier milk production contribute to the health of calves, promoting remarkable growth and high weaning weights - all while the dam is on a diet of grass and hay. 

As members of the Braunvieh Association, we have met many wonderful people who have shared their extensive knowledge about the breed. 

 We are dedicated to preserving the best original Braunvieh traits.  

Our full-blood cow herd has been carefully selected from some of the oldest bloodlines in North America and is bred to some of the most respected bulls in the breed through artificial insemination. Additionally, we use embryo transfer to maintain and promote these historic bloodlines (producing one calf from a 30 year old frozen embryo) that have contributed to the excellence of this breed.

While our brood cows are not for sale, we do offer their full blood offspring, including both bull and heifer calves, for sale and trade. To see photos and pedigrees of available animals, please follow our farm's Facebook page and check it frequently.

  Steers at 13 months of age typically have a body weight of around 1300 pounds. The meat shows excellent marbling and scores highly in tests for tenderness and texture, with a rich aroma. The fat consistency is exceptional, enhancing the culinary experience. Nutritionally, the meat stands out for  maintaining high levels of protein, essential minerals, and important vitamins. Baunvieh meat is a healthy choice for consumers. 

Full-blood Braunvieh bulls are often sought after as sires in crossbreeding programs due to their ability to significantly improve conception rates by as much as 7%. Braunvieh cows used in crossbreeding programs can increase weaning weights by 5% to 11% over many other cross breeds.
