Rocky Mountain horses

 The Rocky Mountain Horse breed originated in Eastern Kentucky in the late 1800s through the breeding of a legendary gaited stallion from the Rocky Mountain region to mares from the Appalachian region of Kentucky, almost a hundred years before the Rocky Mountain Horse Association® (RMHA), the registry for the breed was created. All gaited American equine breeds have a shared early history. The RMHA was formed in 1978 to preserve the unique bloodlines of the Rocky Mountain Horse and promote the versatility of this wonderful breed. The breed is recognized by The Livestock Conservancy® as an endangered heritage equine breed and is classified as threatened due to the number of registrations each year (<500). Because the breeding herd is small, responsible breeders pay close attention to maintaining diverse blood lines and monitoring for hereditary health concerns that could impact on the long-term well-being of the breed. The RMHA supports these breeders through careful herd monitoring and through programs to reward owners using their horses in a variety of ways. The goal of the breeders and the association is to maintain the health of the Rocky Mountain Horse herd for many years to come. 

 We only decided to purchase a stallion, because we found Venture's Black Fury. He possessed all the traits Rockies are known for.  He was a joy to ride and easy to handle. A proud but respectful stallion, he proved himself when we learned he passed his gait, conformation, beauty, temperament, athleticism and intelligence on to his offspring. Fury soon began living at pasture with his mares and foals... where we found he loved to play with the foals. He stood as our herd sire from 2006 to 2026 and we've enjoyed watching as his offspring, across the US and in several other countries, have pleased their owners. 

We've ended our years as breeders, but we were able to find another family eager to breed their mares to Fury. He's moved on, but the memories he's given us will last forever.

We are lifetime members of the RMHA and The Livestock Conservancy.  We have promoted the Rocky Mountain Horse through the production and sale of animals that represent the breed's historic type since 2006. We believe breeding for the combination of sound conformation, correct gait, gentle temperament, athletic potential and intelligence ("the full package") is key to maintaining the long-term health of each animal, the satisfaction of each owner and the conservation of this breed far into the future.  Our stallion and our mares were chosen based on these traits, for their complementary and diverse genetic lines and the sound health of their ancestors, with the goal of conserving traditional Rocky Mountain Horse breed characteristics.
